When the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that governments had broad power to take private property to boost economic development, real-estate executives cheered. From the WSJ.

This is far too much of a generalization of an entire industry. Not one Realtor I have spoken to has said the Kelo ruling was a good thing. Our profession depends on property rights. We fight on a daily basis through all available channels to ensure that individuals’ property rights are neither diminished nor stripped in any way.

Thanks for the link to the VirginiaPropertyRights.org Jim. I agree with you that the real estate industry depends on private property rights. I know a number of real estate agents and they are unanimous in their opposition to this decision, as I think the vast majority of people are.

    Arin –

Thanks for the note. I am the Chair of the CAAR Government Affairs Committee. Would you be willing to put a brief synopsis together that addresses the impact of Kelo and who we should contact locally and statewide to have our own impact? I would like to distribute this at our next meeting in a couple of weeks.
