Blog is indeed a strange word but it has grown on me. I agree with Merv that it really doesn’t matter what you call it. I dont think most bloggers have a problem with it—it’s those that are not doing it that are thrown by the word. But they would be thrown by any other you chose to substitute. The blog train has left the station and there is no way to get it back.
