I always get paper bags from the grocery and then use them as a trash bag in my kitchen can. The only use for the plastic bags is to pick up dog poop.

When I lived in Calgary, the Safeway down the road from me charged customers for each bag used. It was a small fee, like three cents each, but it gave customers an incentive to take a canvas bag.

I keep meaning to take canvas bags with me when I do the shopping, but if I'm buying $160 worth of groceries, that's a lot of bags to have to take to the store.
