29 North? Where’s That? Said the Customers of Wegmans in Charlottesville

29 North? Where’s That? Might be a question residents of the 5th Street Extended/Old Lynchburg area say in a few years after Wegman’s and Costco have established themselves.

I do wonder – what transportation improvements will be made to facilitate biking and walking?

I hope the answer to the last question is not “none”, but even if there is some paltry amount of biking and walking infrastructure it’s unlikely to be connected to the other bits and pieces of biking and walking infrastructure we have here. I read recently that the city has some grand plans for more and better connected trails, etc.; I’d like to know more about what (if any) plans the county has and how those plans jive with what the city is doing (or not). I think we are slowly moving towards better biking and walking opportunities but like everything else around here it’s going to take a long time.

Sorry for the delay in responding; I’m on vacation this week. What you refer to – the disconnect, both physical and conceptual – between the county and city is an age-old challenge.

Now that the developers have proffered $100k to pedestrian improvements, I’m somewhat hopeful that there will be progress. How they actually implement said proffers will be interesting.
