How Do You Suggest Albemarle Pay for Infrastructure?
Pantops wants sidewalks. But apparently Albemarle doesn’t have money for much of anything right now. What are the solutions? Gas tax? Local tax district with guaranteed dedicated funding to infrastructure? We know that if we don’t specify up front how taxpayers’ money will be used, it will be frittered away elsewhere … would you be willing to pay a gas tax or sales tax that was specified for infrastructure projects in Charlottesville and Albemarle?
Supervisor David Slutzky (Rio) raised the question of how to pay for such improvements in the Pantops area, such as crosswalks and bike lanes on Route

Charlottesville, VA – Albemarle County’s Places29 Master Plan for the North US 29 corridor under counts cost by over $175,000,000 (40.5%) according to the ‘Reality Check Report’ released today by the Free Enterprise Forum.

The land costs were increased by a similar historic trend line analysis of the Consumer Price Index (CPI).

“We were aware that there was talk of a road project either near or on our property,” said Russ Nunley, Regal’s Vice President of Marketing & Communications in an
Albemarle Place is Back on Track – Take Two
So says Brian McNeill in today’s DP, and he covers most of the angles – water, infrastructure, proffers (I’d love to know what they’re trying to re-negotiate).
Albemarle Place is planned for 65 acres of vacant land near the 7-Eleven on Hydraulic Road. Once completed, the project will feature 1 million square feet of residential space and 900,000 square feet of retail and office space. Its buildings would surround a 10,000-square-foot foundation, according to plans. … Steve Boyle, vice president for development at Edens & Avant, said it is too early to announce any tenants of Albemarle Place, but
