I heard Neil Williamson’s soundbite this
morning saying that seven words need to be added to the Comp Plan – “ensure that
private property rights are protected.” It sounds so simple, but oftentimes, we
see that the “common good” argument places the rights of individuals at a
distinct disadvantage.

Albemarle County Farm Bureau wants guarantees agriculture & forestry WON’T
take a back seat in the next version of a Comprehensive Plan. The Albemarle
Supervisors heard Wednesday night from many farmers whose families have tilled
the soil for centuries. They got some backup from the Free Enterprise Forum. The
supervisors also heard from land conservation and anti-sprawl groups, such as
the Piedmont Environmental Council and ASAP, the Advocates for a Sustainable
Albemarle Population. The board will hold a work session on these matters in
several weeks. John Foster of the Piedmont Environmental Council is among those
who spoke Wednesday regarding Albemarle land use matters.”
