Transfer of Development rights

Politics in a nutshell:

“What I’m saying is, don’t be bellyaching about ‘we’ve got all this new money and we want to cut rates to reduce the amount of money,’ and then not talk about services,” he said. “We all do it, and I’m saying I don’t have to worry about it this year, so I’m going to raise hell about it.”

Translated: Now that I’m not running for re-election, I can do what I think is right. Sometimes politics/politicians make me sick. Why not do what’s right to start?

In Charlottesville it would mean you can’t get elected (or re-elected) by telling “the masses” that they can’t have their cake and eat it to. People want tax cuts but don’t want service cuts.

I blame it on my fellow voters they’ve created the system they have now.

It’s sad that Caravati is becoming fiscally responsible only now that he’s leaving office. However I suspect most of Caravati’s “new fiscal conscience” is more just a political stunt to try and keep Schilling in check.

And I wonder what was behind this statement Caravati made?:

“I’m not a lame duck. I’m a wounded duck. And you know what happens when animals are wounded.”

Could his decision not to run again not have been his own? I don’t think all that vitriol could be directed only at Schilling.

In any event this looks like “business as usual” from the Cville city council.
