Way off topic, but of vital importance (to me) and 1.5 billion other people. Where are the best places to watch the World Cup in CharlAlbemarle?

    My house of course. High def is the only way to go 🙂

    With HD you can watch the sweat and blood flying off bodies as collisions occur with players and the ball. Bugs flying around the field. Scars on faces. Logos on shirts. Very entertaining.

    Can anyone take off on Monday to watch the first U.S. match? The Shebeen is showing matches, but not live, and their beer prices are too expensive anyway.

    This first match is shaping up to be awesome!!!

    I heard an interesting story on CNN today about how soccer hadn’t caught on over here in the USA, “hadn’t gotten the market penetration” that the World Cup officials would’ve liked to have seen.

    The gist of the story was that the USA soccer teams shot themselves in both feet with the 70k salary caps for players, and by doing so it effectively made the USA soccer teams the world equivalent to the baseball minor leagues, with a correspondingly similar sized audience.

    I don’t really follow soccer all that much. But it was a pretty interesting story. My personal theory on why soccer hasn’t been more popular in the U.S.A. is because the way the sports outlets tape/shoot the games. Watch a soccer game on a spanish station and then watch one on a mainstream U.S. station. The spanish station covers it with as many cameras as the U.S. would give to NFL football.

    Anyway.. Good luck to whichever teams you’re rooting for!

    Thanks for the heads-up. Hopefully they were more prepared than Wild Wings were- one waitress (with a good, calm attitude) was assigned to the entire upstairs of WW – needless to say she was utterly and swiftly overwhelmed.

    Wild Wings is opening up at 9 or 9:30am on June 22nd for the US-Ghana and Italy-Czech Republic games. BW3 says they’re opening up at 10am.
