Appearance on local TV in Charlottesville

Channel 29 did a not-so-terrible story today on the local housing market. Even better, they shot my interview at a house I am marketing. Update 12/4/08 – Just to clarify the “no-so-terrible”  – I am always concerned when doing interviews, as there I do not control the context of my words. The story was, I thought, fairly balanced.

The creaky sign at the beginning was classically ominous.

** This is the second time this year that I’ve been able to market a property via the local news. Sometimes, no amount of marketing can bring an offer.

I saw that. In a way, it’s almost a relief to me that the market is slow. Back when houses were selling like hotcakes, it seemed we might have been missing an opportunity by not selling our house. Now we can relax and enjoy where we live, and not feel so pressured to finish our renovations.

And that’s exactly why this market is and will be healthier and better. Now that people are focusing as much if not more on the intrinsic value of their houses, a couple of things are likely to happen:

    1) Construction standards will (finally) go up due to consumer demand
    2) Our region will be less transient
    3) Neighborhoods may become more stable
    4) Homeowners may actually care about the quality of their house and enjoy living in it.

Great job Jim! Please bring an autographed 8×10 glossy photo to NYC next week… 🙂

Jay – you are too funny. I’ve been trying to find a headshot for another publication and am tempted to use someone else’s.
