Further, consider growing your own vegetables or go so far as buying into a community that takes it a step further, like my neighborhood south of Stanardsville. We raise beef cattle, our hens produce delicious eggs, and we have a large garden that produces a variety of produce during the vast majority of the year. Hedge your food costs by what you can do at home. BTW, there are homes and lots for sale in here. Jim can even help you purchase them. 🙂

We complain about rising food prices even though part of the reason is that we convert food inefficiently into fuel.

Then we complain about falling home prices.

Hopefully the government will stop interfering with food policy and stop subsidizing food to fuel. Likewise, lets hope the government doesn’t try to bail everyone out on the housing bubble and make everyone pay for the mistakes of those who bought and who lended foolishly.

Interesting that the WSJ is running an article advocating using money to stock up on food rather than using it to earn interest!
The garden is two-thirds in and we buy most food locally these days. Now if I could only find a local source for cocoa!
