Peachmac Apple Store Coming to Barracks Road

A Peachmac Apple Storeyes, that kind of Apple Store – will soon be replacing the Hallmark in the Barracks Road Shopping Center.

As reported on the Nest blog:

We’ve been hearing rumors for a few days that an Apple Store is coming to Charlottesville and we confirmed this today. Though the timeframe hasn’t been confirmed, Apple will be opening its first Charlottesville store in Barracks Road Shopping Center in the space where Hallmark currently resides.

…

So, what does all of this mean? It probably means a lot more than just improved shopping options. The fact that these national retailers have decided to invest in Charlottesville is a great thing. As residents, we know this is a great place to live. Not only does Charlottesville offer amazing natural beauty and culture, but it does have a nice, thriving economy. These recent announcements and additions will help the economic strength of Charlottesville.

This is a major coup for Barracks Road – in light of losing one of its flagship stores, Blue Ridge Mountain Sports, to the new Stonefield Shopping Center at Hydraulic and 29, presumably more traffic than ever before will be coming to Barracks Road. But at least Barracks Road has proven it can handle the traffic.

I know this – the only reason I had for going to the Short Pump shopping center in Richmond is gone.

Yes, we are thrilled to be coming to Charlottesville, particularly since my wife is a UVA grad (Architecture ’83). It has always been one our favorite places and we are looking forward to spending more time there.

      Thanks, Darryl.

I’m looking forward to not having to go to Short Pump for my Apple fix. 🙂

Will there be a genius bar type support/training area?

I’m trying to understand. I know we should have an Apple retailer in Charlottesville. But this hurts my heart a little bit. I worked at that Hallmark for many years. I’m trying not to be upset, I understand that this is how business, and retail works. But dammit, its still hard. That store has been there for 45 years. I’m not saying anything bad against you, or your business. I understand that there are still other Hallmarks. But this one has a special place in my heart.

It is sad; I have a lot of memories of going there the night before (or morning or evening of) a special occasion to find the right card.

The folks were always friendly, and I was always grateful that they were there.

I for one will not miss the ‘fragrant’ scents flowing out the door as I walked by nor the sneezing fits they caused.
Also I will not miss the trips to Short Pump.

I didn’t realize the candle store was gone, but I have to agree with your sentiments.

Correct. If you’d read the article I clarified/corrected/noted – also, the headline. 🙂
