The Charlottesville Look Back

New hotel at corner of West Main & McIntire

There are times when Charlottesville feels like a big, massive city.

More often than not, there are times when Charlottesville feels like a big, massive city.

More often than not, Charlottesville  feels like the smallest town you’ve ever lived in.

A client* described this as “the Charlottesville look back.”

The Charlottesville Lookback:

That time when you’re at dinner, and you start to have a conversation with your dinner companions and remember that you have to look back over your shoulder to make sure that person is not sitting behind you.

Several years ago I was in the new Martha Jefferson Hospital on Pantops visiting a friend. While in the waiting room, I looked over and saw someone I hadn’t seen since I graduated high school  … Charlottesville’s an awfully small town sometimes, for better or worse.

I’m inclined to say that that small town aspect is (usually) one of the finer parts of life in Charlottesville.

I enjoyed sitting in the Charlotte, NC airport for about three hours last month, waiting for the flight into Charlottesville which was delayed. As the evening progressed I eavesdropped as more and more people discovered connections and relations and started conversations about Charlottesville – “then” and now. It really felt like a small town to me that night.

That happens to me all the time … (seemingly) so many people are always returning to the HooK …
