Good news for those with private aircraft

Garrett/Piedmont Hawthorne/Associated has expanded its provision of services to the business aviation industry with a new hangar at the Charlottesville-Albemarle Airport in North Carolina, the company said Monday.The new 18,000-square-foot hangar is among the 41 locations in North America operated by Garrett/Piedmont Hawthorne/Associated, which is based in Tempe.The new hangar currently stores six aircraft, including a Gulfstream G5, Bombardier Challenger, Beechcraft King Air 90, Citation Encore, Citation CJ2 and Beechcraft Baron.From the Phoenix Business Journal and “This new hangar is an important addition to the Charlottesville-Albemarle Airport and our customers, and represents a significant investment in the continuing growth of our region,” said Kurt B…. “We look forward to continuing our excellent working relationship with Piedmont Hawthorne in providing high quality airport services,” added Mr. Goodwin…. This is great news for our region – as more affluent people move here and bring their aircraft with them, hopefully they will bring their businesses and therefore more jobs.

Madison tax rates going up?

Madison County supervisors are considering a 3-cent higher real estate tax rate than needed to bring in the same money as last year, in their 2005-06 budget discussions.The numbers, however, are a little more complicated than that – and the tax rate isn’t going up….Some properties doubled or even tripled in value, and overall there was a significant increase, he said. If the county charged only 56 cents per $100 using the new assessments, it would yield the same $6.2 million revenue as this year.This is a regional and nationwide phenomenon. As property values increase, very rarely do the services provided by the municipalities increase by a commensurate amount.
