City Council Think the Flats are Too Big

Unsurprisingly, Charlottesville’s City Council is expressing concerns about the size and scale of the just-opened Flats at West Village. The thing is huge (particularly from the back).

I’m curious to see how quickly the place gets leased out.

All I get is a headline and a link to post a +1 on Google plus.

        All fixed.

Of course, City Council should blame themselves for the size and appearance. 1) They approved the SUP; 2) They appoint the BAR who allowed all the changes from what Council saw at the SUP hearing to what appears today.

I would prefer Council (and the BoS) not micromanage developers, but if they’re going to have BARs and ARBs, those boards need to not lose sight of the forest for the trees. Too many times I feel like they’re in the weeds on details when bigger picture thinking would be better.

It’s an interesting conundrum. I know this – that new building is a certified monstrosity.
