Our region needs new infrastructure. As the funds are not yet available, where are we going to get it? There are so many different needs, the money is going to have to come from somewhere. Will it be a gas tax? A sales tax? Will a special “tax district” be created?
In my opinion, anytime more government is created, efficiency is tossed aside and waste is inevitably created in perpetuity.
Some
questions – What would be the most equitable and and broad-based tax? Is it possible to create a tax whereby the government agrees to concede the income after a certain period of time (sunset clause)? Or will the government take the tack of an addict and refuse to give it up unless the people rip it from its cold, dead hands?
Keep in mind, that the money is going to have to come from somewhere (the public’s pockets).
Be wary and aware of where your money is being spent.
