Chairman Dennis Rooker notes a yearly reassessment would bring Albemarle in line with most other jurisdictions. Rooker says the county staff favors a switch to annual assessments, believing it would smooth out big jumps that property owners experience.
I disagree with this, if only on the principle. The bi-annual “jumps” if nothing else serve as a reminder that we are paying a lot of money in taxes. Taxes should be painful, so long as we pay them.
