Where to Watch the World Cup in Charlottesville – 2010

I love soccer. I play it, I coach it, I watch it. I live within walking distance of a soccer field. Now I’m getting ready for soccer nirvana/overload. Charlottesville is a good soccer town; we’re privileged to have outstanding soccer teams to watch – UVA Men’s and Women’s , thriving youth and adult programs and pretty good fields on which to play. Now it’s nearly time to immerse oneself in the most-watched sporting event in the world.

I asked the question last time, 2006, and now I ask it again:

Where are the best places to watch the World Cup in 2010?. (The USA’s odds to win are 66/1)

Update: Google has a World Cup tool for pubs/bars to note that they are showing the games.

The Shebeen and McGrady’s Irish Pub led the informal poll on Twitter.

Update: McGrady’s will be showing all the games. They say so on Facebook.

This is the first time that McGrady’s has had the opportunity to host the World Cup and we are proud to be the home of every game. We will be open for the 7:30 am games on Saturday and Sunday (And feature small breakfast items) and by 10am for all games every other day of the week. In addition – we will run GREAT beer specials including, but not limited to, $2 Aluminum Bud Light and Budweiser Bottles and $3 Guinness Draught!

Update:

Beer Run is your World Cup 2010 Headquarters! We will be showing every single game on the big screen. Yes, even the 7:30 AM games! $1 off draft pints, wings and nachos during the games. GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAL!!!!!!

– I think Zinc on West Main will be showing the World Cup. (they’re also listed on livesoccertv, so they must, right?
BW3 and Wild Wings surely will.

Timberwood Grill on 29 North

Fardowner’s in Crozet says they’ll be showing it.

@SeanTubbs says that hopefully Court Square Tavern (@CourtSquareTav) will be open for the USA -v- England Match on 12 March

What other pubs and restaurants in Charlottesville will be showing the World Cup in 2010?

Where will you be watching soccer/football this summer?

@JimDuncan – Shebeen is a great place to watch the World Cup. I will be camped there on some days …

@JimDuncan – I think Shebeen’s going to be one of the best places for the World Cup this year

    Thanks Jim 🙂

If you could add the Timberwood Grill in your list of places that are hosting WC2010 events that would be awesome. As a stranded Brit in C’Ville I have to get the atmosphere as pumped as possible – this is my religion 🙂
